Summary

Excel – How to use the XLOOKUP function

There are 2 types of excel user in this world, those that know how to use VLOOKUP and those who need Excel uninstalling from their machine and they go stand in the corner.

To be fair VLOOKUP is an extremely useful function, allowing you to pull in related data from other sheets and workbooks but it is very pernickety to say the least but hopefully the new XLOOKUP function should round off a few of the rough edges of VLOOKUP.

Some differences to VLOOKUP are:-

XLOOKUP allows you to lookup data in columns to the left of the reference column.

You also highlight the columns you want returning rather than counting off the number of columns

You can deal with #NA where a lookup cannot be found much easier.

The video below walks you through how to use XLOOKUP.

How do I get this?

If you get your Excel via Office 365 then a future automatic update will bring this function if you don’t have it available already
